TRPM2는 Sodium, Potassium, Calcium 이온 채널을 포함하는 이온 수송 단백질 계열에 속합니다. 이 계열의 단백질은 6개의 막관통 헬리스를 가지며, 마지막 두 헬릭스 사이의 루프가 이온 선택성을 결정합니다.
TRPM2는 산화 스트레스에 의해 활성화되며 세포 사멸에 대한 감수성을 부여합니다. 또한 TRPM2는 자유 세포내 ADP-ribose에 의해 조절되는 칼슘 투과성 양이온 채널입니다.
TRPM2 유전자의 여러 가지 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변형이 보고되었으나, 그 전체 길이는 알려져 있지 않습니다.
