The IL-6 receptor is a protein complex consisting of an IL-6 receptor subunit (IL6R) and interleukin 6 signal transducer Glycoprotein 130.
Interleukin 6 (IL6) is a potent pleiotropic cytokine that regulates cell growth and differentiation and plays an important role in immune response.
Target Information
Tocilizumab (Actemra) is a humanized monoclonal antibody developed by Hoffmann-La Roche and Chugai for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
It binds to the interleukin-6 receptor (IL-6R) and blocks its interaction with interleukin 6 (IL-6), thereby inhibiting IL-6-mediated pro-inflammatory effects.
