Target Information
Caspase 7 belongs to the cysteine protease family, divided into apoptotic and inflammatory subfamilies. Apoptotic caspases mediate programmed cell death, with initiator caspases activating executioner caspases such as Caspase 7. Caspase 7 was identified based on homology with Caspases 1 and 3 and C. elegans CED-3. Alternative splicing of Caspase-7 mRNA generates three distinct isoforms. Caspase-7 activity can be inhibited by XIAP expression. Diseases associated with CASP7 include Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus 17 and Aleutian Mink Disease.
