Target Information

EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) is a receptor tyrosine kinase that responds to various growth factors. Overexpression of EGFR is associated with multiple cancers and serves as a target for biological and small-molecule therapeutics.

EGFR is encoded by the EGFR gene on chromosome 7 and belongs to the HER/ERbB family, which includes ERbB2, ERbB3, and ERbB4. Ligand binding (e.g., EGF or TGF-α) induces receptor dimerization and autophosphorylation of tyrosine residues, triggering downstream signaling. Overexpression is observed in tumors of the head and neck, brain, bladder, stomach, breast, lung, endometrium, cervix, ovary, and others.
