Members of the STE-20 like kinase family stimulate MAPK pathways by directly activating MAPKKK. STRAD is a pseudokinase with a STE-20-like kinase domain lacking catalytic residues. It binds LKB1 and regulates its tumor suppressor activity by anchoring LKB1 in the cytoplasm. STRAD–LKB1 interaction enhances phosphorylation and autophosphorylation of LKB1.
