Product Specific Information
This antibody detects endogenous levels of Vimentin only when phosphorylated at Ser39.
Target Information
Vimentin is a developmentally regulated intermediate filament protein (IFP) found in cells of mesenchymal origin. It is involved in intracellular protein transport between the nucleus and plasma membrane. Vimentin, along with desmin, is expressed during early cellular development and later replaced by tissue-specific IFPs. It plays a role in steroid synthesis by mediating cholesterol transport within cells. Phosphorylation of vimentin at Ser39 leads to intermediate filament breakdown and cytoskeletal reorganization, facilitating lipid droplet interaction with mitochondria and enhancing steroidogenic activity.
