eIF4E는 24 kDa 폴리펩타이드로, 자유 형태와 EIF4F 복합체의 일부 형태로 존재합니다. EIF4E는 번역 과정의 속도 제한 요소로, mRNA-리보솜 결합 단계에 관여합니다. EIF4F의 다른 구성요소로는 ATPase 및 RNA helicase 활성을 가진 50 kDa EIF4A와 220 kDa EIF4G가 있습니다.
