Target Information
Podoplanin (PDPN, T1A, gp38, Aggrus) is a mucin-type 1 glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 40–43 kDa. It is expressed in various tumors and normal cells, particularly lymphatic epithelial cells and follicular dendritic cells. Podoplanin localizes in stromal cells of peripheral lymphoid tissue and thymic epithelial cells.
As a regulator of the lymphatic endothelium, podoplanin plays a key role in maintaining the unique shape of podocytes. It serves as a ligand for CLEC-2, and its expression correlates with increased tumor invasiveness and metastatic potential. Podoplanin is directly involved in cell migration, metastasis formation, and tumor invasion. Its expression can be induced by Src activation of Cas and has been detected on Th17 cells and a subset of CD4+ cells from human PBMC.
Dysfunction of podoplanin is associated with diseases such as lymphangioma and subglottis neoplasm. It is also proposed as a marker for lung injury due to its physiological function.
