IMPDH2는 새로운 구아닌 뉴클레오타이드 생합성 과정의 속도 제한 효소를 암호화하며, 세포 내 DNA 및 RNA 합성을 위한 구아닌 뉴클레오타이드 풀을 유지하는 데 관여합니다. 해당 단백질은 NAD 의존성 반응을 통해 이노신-5'-모노포스페이트를 잔틴-5'-모노포스페이트로 산화시키며, 이후 구아노신-5'-모노포스페이트로 전환됩니다. 일부 신생물에서 발현이 증가되어 악성 전환에 관여할 가능성이 있습니다.
