Target Information

The CD204 gene encodes class A macrophage scavenger receptors, which include three isoforms (1, 2, 3) generated by alternative splicing. These macrophage-specific trimeric integral membrane glycoproteins are involved in various macrophage-associated physiological and pathological processes such as atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and host defense.

  • Isoforms 1 and 2 mediate endocytosis of modified low-density lipoproteins (LDLs).
  • Isoform 3 does not internalize modified LDL due to altered intracellular processing, remaining trapped within the endoplasmic reticulum.
  • Isoform 3 can inhibit the function of isoforms 1 and 2 when co-expressed, suggesting a dominant negative regulatory mechanism.
    Diseases associated with MSR1 include Barrett Esophagus and Prostate Cancer.
