Target Information
POT1 is a component of the telomerase ribonucleoprotein (RNP) complex essential for chromosome end replication. It is part of the TRF1 complex that regulates telomere length by cis-inhibition of telomerase. POT1 also binds single-stranded telomeric DNA and may act as a downstream effector of TRF1, transmitting telomere maintenance signals. It binds specifically to telomeric single-stranded 5'-TTAGGG-3' repeats and the minimal 5'-TAGGGTTAG-3' sequence. Its activity is TERT-dependent but does not increase TERT activity.
