Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
The cathepsin family of proteolytic enzymes includes several diverse classes of proteases:
- Cysteine proteases: Cathepsins B, L, H, K, S, and O
- Aspartyl proteases: Cathepsins D and E
- Serine proteases: Cathepsin G
Cathepsin A, a serine carboxypeptidase, exists in a high molecular weight lysosomal complex with β-galactosidase (β-gal) and α-neuraminidase (Neu1). It functions to protect β-gal and Neu1 from intralysosomal proteolysis. Deficiencies in cathepsin A lead to deficiencies in β-gal and Neu1, and mutations in this gene cause galactosialidosis, a lysosomal storage disorder resulting from these deficiencies. The human cathepsin A gene is located on chromosome 20q13.12.
