Target Information
The TRIM5 alpha protein is a member of the tripartite motif family, containing three zinc-binding domains (RING, B-box type 1, and B-box type 2) and a coiled-coil region.
It forms homo-oligomers via the coiled-coil region and localizes to cytoplasmic bodies.
Functions as an E3 ubiquitin-ligase, self-ubiquitinates to regulate subcellular localization, and may play a role in retroviral restriction.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described.
