Product Specific Information

This antibody recognizes the extracellular domain (preferentially in native form) of glutamate carboxypeptidase II (NAALADase, FOLH1, PSMA), an approximately 95–110 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein expressed mainly in tumor neovasculatures, nervous system, and jejunum. It is an important prostate tumor marker.

Target Information

This gene encodes a type II transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the M28 peptidase family. The protein acts as a glutamate carboxypeptidase on substrates including folate and N-acetyl-L-aspartyl-L-glutamate. It is expressed in tissues such as prostate, central and peripheral nervous system, and kidney.
Mutations may cause impaired intestinal folate absorption and hyperhomocysteinemia. In the brain, expression is linked to conditions involving glutamate excitotoxicity. In prostate tissue, the protein is up-regulated in cancerous cells and serves as a diagnostic and prognostic marker for prostate cancer.
Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
