Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속하며, astrocyte 및 특정 astroglia에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 neural stem cell에서도 높은 수준으로 발현되어, astrocytic cell의 마커로 널리 활용됩니다. GFAP는 다양한 뇌종양에서 과발현되며, 렌즈 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 침샘 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 발견됩니다. GFAP는 발달 과정에서 astrocyte를 다른 glial cell과 구분하는 데 사용되며, GFAP 유전자 변이는 Alexander disease를 유발할 수 있습니다. 이 유전자는 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 여러 isoform을 생성합니다.
