Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속합니다. GFAP는 주로 중추신경계의 성상세포와 일부 astroglia, 말초신경계의 위성세포 및 비수초성 슈반세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 신경줄기세포에서도 GFAP 발현이 높습니다. GFAP 항체는 성상세포 표지자로 널리 사용되며, 다양한 뇌종양에서 높은 발현이 관찰됩니다. 이 단백질은 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 타액선 종양 세포 등에서도 발견됩니다. GFAP는 발달 과정에서 성상세포와 다른 교세포를 구별하는 데 유용하며, GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 Alexander disease를 유발할 수 있습니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 여러 isoform이 존재합니다.
