Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속하며, 중추신경계의 astrocyte와 특정 astroglia에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한, neural stem cell에서도 GFAP 발현이 높습니다. GFAP 항체는 astrocytic cell의 마커로 널리 사용되며, astrocyte 유래로 추정되는 다양한 뇌종양에서도 GFAP가 강하게 발현됩니다. 이 단백질은 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 타액선 종양 세포 및 적혈구에서도 발견됩니다. GFAP는 발달 과정에서 astrocyte를 다른 glial cell과 구분하는 마커로 활용됩니다. GFAP 유전자 변이는 Alexander disease라는 희귀한 신경계 질환을 유발할 수 있으며, 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 여러 isoform을 생성합니다.
