Specificity Comments:
Krüppel-like factors (KLFs) are zinc finger-containing transcription factors involved in cell growth, proliferation, differentiation, and embryogenesis. KLF17 (also known as ZNF393 or zfp393) is a 389 amino acid nuclear protein expressed in testis and ovary, functioning as a germ cell-specific transcription factor in oocyte development and spermatid differentiation. It contains three C2H2-type zinc fingers that bind G/C-rich sites and activate transcription from CACCC-box elements.
Target Information
KLF17 is a transcription repressor that binds to promoters of target genes and inhibits their expression. It negatively regulates epithelial-mesenchymal transition and metastasis in breast cancer by binding to the 5'-CACCC-3' sequence in the promoter of ID1, repressing its expression. It may also function as a germ cell-specific transcription factor involved in spermatid differentiation and oocyte development.
