Target Information
Peroxiredoxin (Prx) belongs to a family of peroxidases involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Mammalian Prxs include six members categorized into typical 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, and 1-Cys types. Except for Prx VI (1-Cys subgroup), the other five 2-Cys Prxs possess thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase activity using thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, and NADPH as reducing agents. Mammalian Prxs range from 20–30 kDa and differ in subcellular localization: Prx I, II, and VI in cytosol; Prx III in mitochondria; Prx IV in ER and secretion; Prx V in peroxisome, mitochondria, and cytosol.
