Target Information
OPA1 is a dynamin-related GTPase essential for maintaining mitochondrial morphology and mtDNA integrity. Mutations in OPA1 are associated with heterozygous optic atrophy, which leads to progressive vision loss due to optic nerve fiber degeneration. OPA1 dysfunction is also implicated in certain neurological conditions, including schizophrenia, through its role in mitochondrial network regulation, apoptosis, and cellular metabolism.
