Preparation:
Produced from sera of rabbits immunized with highly pure Recombinant Human BD-5. Anti-Human BD-5-specific antibody was purified by affinity chromatography and then biotinylated.

Sandwich ELISA:
To detect hBD-5 by sandwich ELISA (using 100 µL/well antibody solution), a concentration of 0.25–1.0 µg/mL of this antibody is required. This biotinylated polyclonal antibody, in conjunction with PeproTech Polyclonal Anti-Human BD-5 (500-P323) as a capture antibody, allows detection of at least 0.2–0.4 ng/well of Recombinant hBD-5.

Western Blot:
To detect hBD-5 by Western Blot analysis, this antibody can be used at a concentration of 0.1–0.2 µg/mL. Used with compatible secondary reagents, the detection limit for Recombinant hBD-5 is 1.5–3.0 ng/lane under reducing or non-reducing conditions.

Target Information

Defensins (alpha and beta) are cationic peptides with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity and form an essential part of the innate immune system.
Alpha-defensins differ from beta-defensins by the pairing of their three disulfide bonds. Six human beta-defensins have been identified: BD-1, BD-2, BD-3, BD-4, BD-5, and BD-6.
Beta-defensins are expressed on certain leukocytes and epithelial surfaces. Besides antimicrobial activity, they act as chemoattractants for immature dendritic cells and memory T cells.
These proteins are expressed as C-terminal portions of precursors and released via proteolytic cleavage. Beta-defensins contain a six-cysteine motif forming three intra-molecular disulfide bonds.
