This antibody detects a 15 kDa protein corresponding to the molecular mass of Histone H2B on SDS-PAGE immunoblots of human Jurkat cells treated with Calyculin A. The reactivity is reduced after lambda phosphatase treatment.
Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of chromosomal fiber in eukaryotes. Nucleosomes consist of approximately 146 bp of DNA wrapped around a histone octamer composed of pairs of the four core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4). Nucleosomes compact DNA into chromatin, limiting accessibility to DNA-dependent cellular machineries. Histones play a central role in transcription regulation, DNA repair, replication, and chromosomal stability. H2B also exhibits broad antibacterial activity.
