Target Information
STING is a signaling protein composed of 379 amino acids and is a key component of innate immune signaling. It activates NF-kappa-B and IRF3 pathways to induce type I interferon expression (IFN-alpha, IFN-beta), establishing an antiviral state.
STING may also function as a translocon influencing interferon induction and mediates apoptotic signaling through MHC-II association. It facilitates detection of intracellular viral RNA and B-form DNA, and mediates death signaling via ERK activation.
STING is localized to the endoplasmic reticulum membrane, cell membrane, and mitochondrial outer membrane, and is ubiquitously expressed in most tissues.
