Target Information

Ki-67 is a nuclear protein expressed during various stages of the cell cycle, particularly in late G1, S, G2, and M phases. It contains a forkhead-associated (FHA) domain that enables interaction with euchromatin, centromeric heterochromatin, and the nucleolus.
Ki-67 exhibits cell cycle-dependent localization: perinucleolar at G1, nuclear matrix at G2, and chromosomal during M phase.
Because Ki-67 is absent in G0 cells but increases from G1 through mitosis, it serves as a reliable proliferation marker.
Ki-67 antibodies are widely used to determine the growth fraction of neoplasms, showing strong correlation between low Ki-67 index and histologically low-grade tumors.
It is also used as a neuronal marker for cell cycling and proliferation studies.
