• Specificity Comments:
  This monoclonal antibody is specific for human interferon alpha 1 and does not cross-react with human interferon alpha 2.
  Interferons are widely used therapeutic agents due to their anti-tumor, anti-viral, and immune-modulatory effects. These cytokines act by binding to the Type 1 Interferon Receptor (IFNAR1).
  Down-regulation of IFNAR1, influenced by phosphorylation at Serine 535 and 539, determines cytokine signaling magnitude and duration.
  Produced by macrophages, IFN-alphas exhibit antiviral activities and stimulate production of protein kinase and oligoadenylate synthetase.

Target Information

IFN alpha (Interferon alpha) is a Type I interferon, part of a family of structurally related, species-specific proteins found in vertebrates.
Interaction with its receptor activates signaling pathways involved in innate immune response against viral infection.
In humans, the IFN alpha gene is located on chromosome 9.
Type I interferons include 14 alpha isoforms and single beta, omega, epsilon, and kappa isoforms.
Homologous molecules are found in many species, including mammals, birds, reptiles, and fish.
IFN alpha is primarily produced by plasmacytoid dendritic cells and plays a key role in antiviral defense and adaptive immunity modulation.
Dysfunction of IFN alpha is associated with diseases such as Hepatitis C and Hepatitis.
