Target Information
EIF2AK2 (PKR) is one of four kinases that specifically phosphorylate Ser51 of translation initiation factor eIF2-alpha in response to environmental stresses. PKR is a key component of the antiviral defense mechanism, activated by double-stranded RNA during viral infection. It mediates interferon-induced antiviral responses, virus-induced apoptosis, and regulates cell growth and differentiation. PKR influences multiple pathways, including NF-κB activation, p53, p38, and PDGF signaling. It is implicated in tumor suppression, viral evasion mechanisms, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, and ALS.
