Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of Smad1 only when phosphorylated at Serine 187.


Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the SMAD family, similar to the Drosophila gene mothers against decapentaplegic (Mad) and the C. elegans gene Sma.
SMAD proteins are signal transducers and transcriptional modulators mediating multiple signaling pathways.
This protein mediates bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signals involved in cell growth, apoptosis, morphogenesis, development, and immune responses.
Upon BMP ligand binding, it is phosphorylated and activated by BMP receptor kinase, forming a complex with SMAD4 for transcription regulation.
It is targeted by SMAD-specific E3 ubiquitin ligases (SMURF1, SMURF2) and undergoes ubiquitination and proteasome-mediated degradation.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been observed.
