Target Information
Cytokeratins (CK) are intermediate filaments found in epithelial cells, present in both keratinizing (e.g., skin) and non-keratinizing (e.g., mesothelial) tissues. Over 20 CKs have been identified and are classified into two groups:
- Type I (acidic polypeptides)
- Type II (basic polypeptides)
Keratin 14 (KRT14), a low molecular weight type I keratin, typically pairs with keratin 5. It serves as a marker to distinguish stratified epithelial cells from simple epithelial cells and is valuable in identifying squamous cell carcinomas. KRT14 is also considered a prognostic marker in breast carcinomas. In epithelial cells, at least one acidic and one basic keratin are co-expressed.
