Target Information
Alpha catenin is a member of the β-catenin family of cytosolic proteins. It interacts with N-cadherin and β-catenin on the cytosolic side of adherens junctions to mediate interaction with the actin cytoskeleton. Alpha catenin exists as a homodimer in solution but forms a 1:1 heterodimer with β-catenin to interact with cadherins. It regulates morphological plasticity of synapses and cerebellar and hippocampal lamination during development and functions in the control of startle modulation.
