Osteopontin은 아르기닌-글라이신-아스파르트산(RGD) 서열을 포함하는 당단백질로, integrin 및 CD44 수용체와 상호작용합니다. 이 단백질은 골 무기화, 세포 부착, 세포 이동, 만성 염증성 질환 및 세포 변형에 관여합니다. Thrombin 및 matrix metalloproteinase에 의한 절단은 Osteopontin의 기능과 integrin 결합 특성을 조절합니다. Thrombin에 의해 절단된 Osteopontin 단편은 악성 신경교종에서 과발현되어 생존 이점을 제공하며 plasmin 및 cathepsin D의 새로운 기질로 작용합니다.
