Target Information
Hepatocyte Nuclear Factor 1 (HNF1, also known as Homeoprotein LFB3, Transcription Factor 2, TCF2, Variant hepatic nuclear factor) is a member of the homeodomain-containing superfamily of transcription factors. It functions as a liver-specific factor within the homeobox-containing basic helix-turn-helix family.
The protein binds DNA as a homodimer or heterodimer with HNF1-alpha and plays roles in nephron and pancreatic development. Mutations in this gene are linked to renal cysts and diabetes syndrome as well as noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. Altered expression has been observed in some cancers.
Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms exist for this gene.
