Target Information
WW domain-containing transcription regulator protein 1 (WWTR1) is a transcriptional coactivator acting as a downstream regulatory target in the Hippo signaling pathway.
This pathway controls organ size and tumor suppression by limiting cell proliferation and promoting apoptosis.
WWTR1 interacts with STK3/MST2 and STK4/MST1 kinase cascades, and regulates YAP1 and TAZ activity.
It enhances PAX8 and NKX2-1/TTF1-dependent gene activation, mediates SMAD nuclear accumulation, and couples transcriptional machinery to the mediator complex.
WWTR1 also plays a role in embryonic stem-cell self-renewal, cell proliferation, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition.
