The 3H5 monoclonal antibody reacts with rat CD80 (B7-1), a ~70 kDa member of the immunoglobulin superfamily. CD80 is expressed by macrophages, dendritic cells, and activated B cells. It binds with high affinity to T cell surface antigens CD28 and CD152 (CTLA-4), which are crucial for T-B cell communication and activation. The 3H5 antibody blocks CD80 from binding to its ligands.

  Cell number may range from 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information

CD80 (B7-1) and CD86 (B7-2) are ligands of the T cell costimulatory molecule CD28 and the inhibitory receptor CTLA-4 (CD152). Both are expressed on professional antigen-presenting cells and are essential for T cell activation. CD80 is rapidly induced on activated B cells, EBV-transformed B cell lines, Burkitt’s lymphoma cell lines, follicular B lymphoma cells, T cells, and monocytes.
CD80 provides regulatory signals for T lymphocytes via CD28 and CTLA4 interactions.
Dysfunction of CD80 has been associated with gallbladder squamous cell carcinoma and myocarditis.
