Product Specific Information
The OKT9 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD71, a 170–180 kDa type II transmembrane protein (transferrin receptor). CD71 exists as a homodimer on the cell surface and is essential for cellular growth. It is expressed by immature proliferating cells and at low levels on resting mature lymphocytes. Antigen or mitogen stimulation of T and B cells upregulates CD71 expression.
Applications Tested:
This OKT9 (OKT-9) antibody has been tested by flow cytometric analysis of unstimulated and PHA-stimulated (3 days) human peripheral blood cells. It can be used at ≤0.125 µg/test. A test is defined as the amount of antibody that will stain a cell sample in a final volume of 100 µL. Cell number should be determined empirically (typically 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test). Antibody titration is recommended for optimal assay performance.
Filtration: 0.2 µm post-manufacturing filtered.
Target Information
Cellular uptake of iron occurs via receptor-mediated endocytosis of ligand-occupied transferrin receptor into specialized endosomes. Endosomal acidification leads to iron release. The apotransferrin-receptor complex is recycled to the cell surface, where neutral pH causes apotransferrin to dissociate.
The transferrin receptor is essential for erythrocyte and nervous system development. Serum transferrin receptor (sTfR) is used to detect erythropoietin (EPO) misuse and to diagnose anemia related to conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, pregnancy, irritable bowel syndrome, and HIV infection.
