Target Information
TCF7L2 (also known as TCF4) is a high mobility group (HMG) box-containing transcription factor that plays a key role in the Wnt signaling pathway. It is involved in glucose homeostasis through regulation of pro-glucagon gene expression, encoding glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1).
Genetic variants of TCF7L2 are linked to type 2 diabetes and are crucial for beta-cell survival and function. Differentially expressed splicing isoforms have been observed during cancer progression, and gene targeting studies indicate that TCF7L2 is required for maintenance of crypt stem cells in the small intestine.
