PA1-780 detects mouse and rat melanopsin.
It has been successfully used in Western blot, immunofluorescence, and immunocytochemistry procedures.
By Western blot, this antibody detects ~53 and ~85 kDa proteins representing overexpressed unglycosylated and glycosylated melanopsin from HEK 293 cells (does not work well on endogenously expressed protein).
Immunofluorescence and immunocytochemistry staining of melanopsin in rat retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) can be performed using PA1-780.
The immunogen is a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues K M(1) N S P S E S R V P S S L T Q D P S F(19) of rat melanopsin.

Target Information

Melanopsin is an opsin-like protein found in the retinal ganglion cells of mammals.
It is part of a secondary optical system that parallels the classic rod and cone system.
This system reports directly to the suprachiasmatic nucleus and regulates circadian rhythms.
Melanopsin knockout mice exhibit decreased capacity to entrain to light and dark cycles.
