  • The peptide is homologous in mouse and shares 96% identity with rat sequence.

Target Information

Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity requires homodimerization as well as three cosubstrates (L-arginine, NADPH, and O₂) and five cofactors or prosthetic groups (FAD, FMN, calmodulin, tetrahydrobiopterin, and heme).
Several distinct NOS isoforms have been described, representing products of three distinct genes:

  • NOS1 (neuronal, nNOS)
  • NOS2 (inducible, iNOS)
  • NOS3 (endothelial, eNOS)

NOS1 activity was first identified in neurons, and NOS3 in endothelial cells.
