Target Information
G protein-coupled receptors (GPRs) are a family of transmembrane receptors that transmit extracellular signals (ligand binding) into intracellular signals (G protein activation). GPR signaling is an evolutionarily conserved mechanism used by eukaryotes to sense environmental stimuli and mediate cell communication.
All GPRs have seven membrane-spanning domains, and their extracellular regions can be glycosylated. These loops contain conserved cysteine residues forming disulfide bonds that stabilize the receptor structure.
GPR103 is a 455 amino acid protein highly expressed in the brain, retina, trigeminal ganglion, hypothalamus, and vestibular nucleus. In peripheral tissues, it is expressed in the heart, kidney, and testis, and may regulate adrenal function. The hypothalamic neuropeptide 26RFa acts as an endogenous ligand for GPR103.
