Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes an epitope within Ab1–16 as well as other Ab peptides: Ab37, Ab38, Ab39, Ab40, and Ab42.
Note: When administered to young Tg2576 mice with minimal Ab deposition and to older mice with higher Ab loads, this antibody reduced Ab accumulation in the brain.
Target Information
Amyloid beta peptide (Abeta/Beta-amyloid) is the major constituent of amyloid plaques in the brains of individuals afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease.
Abeta peptide (40–43 amino acids) is generated from the beta-amyloid precursor protein (beta APP) through sequential cleavage by beta-secretase (BACE) and gamma-secretase.
- Beta-secretase (BACE): Cleaves the extracellular domain of beta APP after activation by furin.
- Gamma-secretase: Cleaves the membrane-bound remnant of beta APP to generate amyloid beta peptide.
- Complex components: Presenilin-1, Presenilin-2, and Nicastrin are key subunits of gamma-secretase complex.
Amyloid beta deposits are characteristic of Alzheimer’s disease and are also detected in Lewy body dementia, Down’s syndrome, Dutch-type amyloidosis, cerebral amyloid angiopathy, and the Guam Parkinson-Dementia complex.
