Target Information

This gene encodes a protein that is a component of NuRD, a nucleosome remodeling deacetylase complex located in the nucleus of human cells. It exhibits broad expression across many tissues and may be part of a small gene family involved in transcriptional regulation, either directly or indirectly through chromatin remodeling.
It is closely related to another family member associated with metastatic potential in certain carcinomas. Both proteins share similar domains, including two DNA-binding domains, a dimerization domain, and a domain found in DNA methyltransferases. One known target of this gene product is p53, where deacetylation correlates with reduced growth inhibition in transformed cells, linking this gene family to metastasis.
