ABCA5는 1,642개의 아미노산으로 구성된 단백질로, ABC transporter superfamily 및 ABCA family에 속합니다. ABC1 subfamily는 다세포 진핵생물에만 존재하는 주요 ABC 하위 패밀리입니다.
이 단백질은 고환, 골격근, 신장, 간, 태반 등에서 높은 발현을 보이며, 두 개의 ABC transporter 도메인을 가진 다중 통과 막 단백질입니다. 세포 내 막에 위치하며 autolysosome 처리에 관여할 수 있습니다.
ABCA5 유전자는 80 kb에 걸쳐 39개의 엑손을 포함하며, 엑손 2에 번역 시작 부위가 있습니다. 인간 염색체 17q24에 위치하며, lysosomal 질환, 종양 발생, 심근세포 및 여포세포 기능에 관련될 수 있습니다. 또한 고등급 전립선 상피내종양(HGPIN) 환자의 진단용 소변 마커로 제안되었습니다.
