GAMT는 guanidoacetate를 creatine으로 전환시키는 methyltransferase로, S-adenosylmethionine을 methyl donor로 사용합니다. 이 유전자 결함은 신경학적 증후군 및 근육 저긴장증과 관련이 있으며, 이는 creatine 결핍과 guanidinoacetate 축적 때문으로 추정됩니다.
본 유전자는 두 가지 전사 변이체를 가지며, 서로 다른 isoform을 암호화합니다.
