Product Specific Information

This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD86 (B7-2), a 70 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is expressed on professional antigen-presenting cells such as dendritic cells, macrophages, and activated B lymphocytes.

Target Information

CD86 is one of two ligands (the other is CD80) for CTLA4 and CD28. It acts as a costimulatory molecule in eliciting T-cell help during antigen presentation. Insufficient co-stimulation involving CD86/CD80 can induce immune tolerance. CD86 is a type I membrane protein expressed by antigen-presenting cells and serves as a ligand for CD28 and cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein 4 (CTLA4) on T cells. Binding to CD28 provides a costimulatory signal for T-cell activation, while binding to CTLA4 negatively regulates T-cell activation. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms. CD86 dysfunction has been associated with gallbladder squamous cell carcinoma and myocarditis.
