Product Specific Information

This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD86 (B7-2), a 70 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin superfamily. CD86 is expressed on professional antigen-presenting cells such as dendritic cells, macrophages, and activated B lymphocytes.

Target Information

CD86 is one of two ligands (the other being CD80) for CTLA4 and CD28. It acts as a costimulatory molecule in eliciting T-cell help during antigen presentation. Insufficient co-stimulation via CD86/CD80 can induce tolerance. CD86 is a type I membrane protein expressed by antigen-presenting cells and interacts with CD28 antigen and cytotoxic T-lymphocyte-associated protein 4 (CTLA-4) on T cells. CD86-CD28 binding activates T cells, while CD86-CTLA4 binding negatively regulates T-cell activation. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms of CD86. Dysregulation of CD86 has been associated with diseases such as gallbladder squamous cell carcinoma and myocarditis.
