Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with an extracellular epitope of CD86 (B7-2), a 70 kDa type I transmembrane glycoprotein of the immunoglobulin supergene family. CD86 is expressed on professional antigen-presenting cells such as dendritic cells, macrophages, and activated B lymphocytes.
Target Information
CD86 is one of two ligands (the other being CD80) for CTLA4 and CD28. It acts as a costimulatory molecule in eliciting T-cell help during antigen presentation. In the absence of sufficient co-stimulation involving CD86/CD80, antigen presentation can induce tolerance.
CD86 is a type I membrane protein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It is expressed by antigen-presenting cells and binds to CD28 and CTLA-4 on T cells. Binding with CD28 provides a costimulatory signal for T-cell activation, while binding with CTLA-4 negatively regulates T-cell activation and diminishes immune response. Alternative splicing results in different isoforms of CD86.
Diseases associated with CD86 dysfunction include gallbladder squamous cell carcinoma and myocarditis.
