Product Specific Information

This antibody is specific for human CD8 and binds human CD8+ T cells. It also cross-reacts with non-human primate CD8, including that of Macaca nemestrina (Southern pig-tailed macaque).

Target Information

Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin family of receptors. It plays an integral role in signal transduction and T cell differentiation and activation.
CD8 is predominantly expressed on T cells as a disulfide-linked heterodimer of CD8α and CD8β, functioning as a co-receptor with the T cell receptor (TCR) for MHC class I molecules. Conversely, CD4 acts as a co-receptor for MHC class II molecules.
CD8 is also expressed on subsets of T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells as disulfide-linked homodimers of CD8α. Engagement of MHC-I/peptide complexes presented by antigen-presenting cells (APCs) triggers recruitment of lymphocyte-specific protein tyrosine kinase (Lck), leading to lymphokine production, motility, and cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activation. Activated CTLs play a crucial role in pathogen and tumor cell clearance. Differentiation of naive CD8+ T cells into CTLs is enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
