Target Information
Integrins are heterodimeric transmembrane glycoprotein receptors composed of alpha and beta subunits. Different combinations of these subunits determine ligand-binding specificity. Integrins mediate cell-matrix and cell-cell adhesion, transmitting signals that regulate gene expression and cell growth.
The Integrin beta 4 subunit acts as a receptor for laminins and typically associates with the alpha 6 subunit. It plays a key role in invasive carcinoma biology. Mutations in this gene are linked to epidermolysis bullosa with pyloric atresia. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
