Target Information
FKBP12 is an immunophilin family protein involved in immunoregulation and protein folding/trafficking. It functions as a cis-trans prolyl isomerase binding FK506 and rapamycin, and interacts with intracellular signaling proteins such as type I TGF-beta receptor. It also coordinates multi-protein complex formation with ryanodine receptor channels.
In mice, deletion of the homologous gene leads to congenital heart disorder known as noncompaction of the left ventricular myocardium.
