The MA5-15668 immunogen is a synthetic peptide corresponding to residues surrounding BCL-2, conjugated to KLH.
MA5-15668 detects BCL-2, which has a predicted molecular weight of approximately 26 kDa.
Target Information
BCL-2 is a key regulator of apoptosis that functions to either inhibit or promote cell death. The BCL-2 family members are characterized by their ability to dimerize to further modulate apoptosis.
Bag1 forms a heterodimer with BCL-2, enhancing its anti-apoptotic effect. Bax and Bak play critical roles in cytochrome c release from mitochondria, initiating apoptosis.
Constitutive expression of BCL-2, such as in translocation to the Ig heavy chain locus, is associated with follicular lymphoma.
In most follicular lymphomas, neoplastic germinal centers express high levels of BCL-2 alpha protein, whereas normal or hyperplastic germinal centers are negative.
Two transcript variants of BCL-2, produced by alternate splicing, differ at their C-terminal ends. Overexpression of BCL-2 has been linked to human cancers such as B-cell lymphoma and prostate cancer.
