Target Information
Synaptotagmins are a large gene family of synaptic vesicle type III integral membrane proteins that regulate exocytosis and endocytosis, playing key roles in neurotransmitter secretion.
Calcium binding to Synaptotagmin I triggers neurotransmitter release at the synapse. Synaptotagmin II is phosphorylated by WNK1 to regulate calcium-dependent interactions. Synaptotagmin III participates in calcium-dependent exocytosis in endocrine cells and neurons, while Synaptotagmin IV is highly expressed in neuronal tissues, especially in the hippocampus.
